Internationally known as a top Caribbean tourist destination with white sand beaches, the Cayman Islands will now attract a new type of visitor – people seeking affordable, high quality medical services. Health City Cayman Islands is a new, world-class hospital providing affordable medical services. The 104 bed facility was recently launched by Dr Devi Shetty of the Narayana Health group of hospitals in India. The new hospital specializes in cardiac surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, pulmonary and pediatric endocrinology.
This is good news for both Caribbean and North American residents. With prices at just a fraction of those in the United States, Health City is sure to be an attractive alternative to US hospitals. In a Forbes magazine article Robert Pearl, M.D. stated that:
With a laser focus on efficiency and quality, the average Narayana cardiac hospital performs 40 heart surgeries a day for less than $1,600 a case. That’s about 2 percent of the average heart surgery cost in the U.S. with outcomes that rival the best American facilities.
Wow! This is surely an important factor in favor of retiring in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean in general. Having Health City in the region will make it even easier for seniors to spend their retirement years in the Caribbean country of their choice.
In addition, the Government of the Cayman Islands hopes that the hospital will be a key driver in the diversification of the Cayman Islands economy. If this idea catches on, other Caribbean countries may soon be following the Cayman’s lead.
