Everybody loves the Caribbean. One of the top vacation destinations in the world, the beaches and crystal waters of the Caribbean Sea make it a perennial favorite for vacationers. It seems like paradise on earth.
More and more people, though, are no longer satisfied with short visits. Instead, they and are making the Caribbean their permanent or second home. There are many benefits to Caribbean living, and not just for the young or wealthy. The Caribbean islands are also an ideal place to retire or semi-retire.
So, what are the top reasons for retiring to the Caribbean? Let’s take a look:
1. Weather
The Caribbean is warm and sunny year-round. With a tropical climate moderated by trade winds, the Caribbean in general has a steady temperature range in the mid to upper 80s (29-31 C). There is little fluctuation in seasonal temperatures. This is different from Miami, for example, which is both hotter in the summer and colder in the winter.
2. Accessibility
Most Caribbean countries have direct flights to major cities in the USA, Canada and Europe. Incredibly, you can fly to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), for example, in just 2 hours from Miami. If you are not permanently relocating, your Caribbean second home is just a few hours away. Also, family members and guests can visit without too much inconvenience. If you do decide to make the Caribbean your permanent home, you can also make easy jaunts back home whenever you like.
3. Food
The food is delicious. The Caribbean countries are famous for their respective cuisines. While fresh seafood is one of the highlights of many Caribbean dishes, the wide availability of simple tropical fruits and vegetables is a delight. Fresh pineapples, mangoes, passion fruit, and papaya are plentiful and many cafes and restaurants serve inexpensive fresh fruit juices. If you are a food lover, explore the cuisine of each country and find mouth-watering dishes that are not available anywhere else in the world.
4. Sports and Activities
The Caribbean offers countless activities, from yachting and golf to scuba diving and just walking on the beaches. As retirement no longer signifies old age, seniors are looking to keep active as we mature. Due to its wonderful year round climate and access to nature and the sea, the Caribbean is the perfect place to stay fit or become active. Home to some of the finest golf courses in the world, the best dive sites, gorgeous marinas, idyllic white sand beaches, lush national parks and more, you can see why the Caribbean is the perfect place to retire and semi-retire.
5. Caribbean Lifestyle
The Caribbean lifestyle is healthy and relaxed. Not relaxed as in inactive, but rather as in stress-free (for the most part). Of course, the laid back lifestyle does take some getting used to when it comes to services, but the overall effect is extremely positive. Your body and mind will thank you. You will have time to think, to ponder and maybe even pursue new goals and dreams. In the Caribbean, you can reinvent your life. Take up painting, write a book, start a new business, etc. The Caribbean can add years to your life!
